Eddy Phachanhla – Physiotherapist in Waterloo

Eddy Phachanhla

Physiotherapist, BSc(Kin), MScPT

Growing up in a single-parent household, I was inspired by my mother’s work ethic and determination, despite experiencing a debilitating work injury. Seeing her go through physical therapy, I was first introduced to this practice and how it truly has the capacity to change a client’s daily life. What drew me to rehab was not only what a significant role it played in my mom’s recovery, but how it aligned with my personal values of using exercise to promote better health and wellbeing. As such, I was motivated to pursue this profession and commit myself to compassionately empowering clients, while providing the highest level of care. I pursued my undergraduate degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Guelph and went on to complete my Masters of Physical Therapy program at the University of Limerick (Ireland) in 2021. I serve clients with any musculoskeletal injuries and have advanced training in both concussion rehab and vestibular rehab, allowing me to provide comprehensive care to any individual I work with. I am a SHIFT Concussion Management provider and qualified in acupuncture, dry needling, electro-acupuncture, and spinal manipulations, as well as in the treatment of TMJ disorders. I returned to my home city of Guelph in 2021 and in addition to work, I spend my free time playing golf and pool, trying new restaurants, and taking my Toy Poodle, Chase, on new adventures.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Within 24‑72 hours is ideal—especially for concussions. Early guidance speeds recovery and prevents setbacks.

  • No referral required. We work closely with family physicians, sports doctors, and neurologists as needed.

  • Acute sprains may resolve in 3–5 visits; complex neurological rehab can span several months. We outline an estimate after your first appointment.

  • We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. For example, if you're coming in for knee or leg treatment, shorts are ideal. For shoulder or back concerns, a loose t-shirt works best. You don't need to bring anything special, just dress comfortably so your physiotherapist can assess and treat you properly.

Depending on your individual plan, you may have partial or full coverage, we recommend contacting your insurance provider before your first appointment to confirm your specific benefits and any limits that may apply.

Our physiotherapists assess the root cause of your sciatic pain and create a personalized treatment plan that may include manual therapy, targeted exercises, and posture correction. Most patients experience significant relief within a few sessions.

  • Many extended health insurance plans in Ontario include physiotherapy coverage. At Modern Healing, we direct bill to most major insurance providers to make the process as straightforward as possible. We recommend confirming your specific coverage details and any session limits directly with your insurance provider before your appointment.

  • Absolutely. Back pain is one of the most common reasons patients visit our physiotherapy clinic in Waterloo. Whether your pain is from a muscle strain, poor posture, a herniated disc, or a workplace injury, our physiotherapists will assess your condition and build a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Early treatment can prevent short-term back pain from becoming a long-term problem.

  • No referral is needed to book a physiotherapy appointment at Modern Healing, you can contact us directly and get started right away. That said, we recommend checking with your insurance provider before your appointment, as some plans may require a doctor's referral in order for your sessions to be covered. This is not common, but it is worth confirming in advance so there are no surprises.
